Hill Country Bordeaux was built on one simple belief: our dogs deserve the same quality of food we put on our own table. After two decades of raising, loving, and learning from the Dogue de Bordeaux breed, we saw firsthand how the right nutrition transforms everything.

How to Transition Your Dog to Raw Food
A proper transition protects your dog's digestive system and sets them up for long-term success. Take it slow — the results are worth it.
Days 1–3: Start at 25%
Replace 25% of your dog's current food with Hill Country Bordeaux. Mild loose stool is normal as the gut microbiome begins to shift.
Days 4–7: Move to 50%
Increase to a 50/50 split. Most dogs show increased interest in meals. Energy levels often begin to improve.
Days 8–10: Move to 75%
Reduce old food to 25%. Most dogs are fully adjusted. Coat improvements and increased energy are commonly noticed here.
Day 11+: Full Raw Diet
Feed 100% Hill Country Bordeaux. Monitor weight, energy, and stool quality and adjust per the feeding calculator.
🐾 What to Expect
Some dogs transition in 3–5 days. Others may take 2–3 weeks. Loose stool and slightly increased thirst are normal. Patience is key.
🍽️ Do Not Mix in the Same Bowl
Kibble and raw food digest at different rates. Feed them at separate meal times during the transition period.
💧 Increase Fresh Water
Raw food contains natural moisture, but always ensure fresh water is available at all times.
📋 Consult Your Veterinarian
If your dog has existing health conditions, consult your vet before switching to raw.
Proper Handling & Storage
Raw food safety is non-negotiable. Follow these guidelines every time to protect your dog and your household.
Keep Frozen Until Ready to Use
Store all products in the freezer. Frozen food remains safe and nutritionally intact for up to 6 months.
Thaw in the Refrigerator
Always thaw in the refrigerator — never on the counter, never in the microwave. Allow 12–24 hours for a full thaw.
Use Within 7 Days of Thawing
Once thawed, keep refrigerated and use within 7 days. Do not refreeze. Label with the thaw date.
30-Minute Rule at Mealtime
Do not leave raw food in the bowl for more than 30 minutes. Refrigerate any uneaten portion immediately.
Clean Everything After Every Meal
Wash the bowl, hands, utensils, and surfaces with hot soapy water after every feeding.
